I am always looking to grow. I have a system for pushing on my knowledge, and I thought I would share with you so you can build your own process from these nuggets. Here are practices you can incorporate:

  • Use Apple Notes. I take handwritten notes all day on nice legal pads. For information I want to keep, I write them up again in Apple Notes. It's easy to search and review this way based on keywords, and it's always in my pocket and across my iCloud devices.
  • Set up a reading area. I have various books I am working through all the time. I have a comfortable chair, lamp and a side table for drinks. I make it inviting to read. My reading area is not my computer working area. It is separate and a focused place. I keep my active books on my Kindle and bookshelf ready to pick up between meetings.
  • If I see a Youtube video, blog article or newsletter that is helpful to someone, I share it by email with my own thoughts. This makes me think about the use case, provide some strategy for others and have something saved in my Gmail to reference.
  • I consider others experts. If you simply are curious and interested in other people, you learn a lot. I like asking questions on topics people spend much of their working time thinking about. If there are nuggets, I put them in my task list to follow up on.
